The Hawai’i AgriTourism Association (HATA) is the leading organization and recognized voice that connects the agriculture sector with the visitor industry and residents across Hawai`i for mutual educational and economic development. HATA is a membership based non-profit dedicated to providing education and economic opportunities to members that include teaching a farmer, rancher, nursery owner, students and other agriculturalists who are interested and passionate about agritourism —- on “how to” diversify your farm, “how to” market your farm, developing farm tours, creating key (peer to peer & Biz2biz) collaborations within your community and “how to” produce value-added products. HATA also works with county and state legislators and council members to provide information on legal actions that directly affect the agritourism industry in Hawai`i.
Maui Wild Fire Recovery Efforts
Hawaii Agritourism Association (HATA) is working to rebuild economic and emotional resiliency for Maui by working with local farmers, ranchers, and businesses to provide meal kits, cooking tools, kitchen supplies/equipment and education on food preparation and preservation for our West Maui and Upcountry area residents who have been displaced.
Additionally we will work with cultural practitioners and Native Hawaiian community leaders to provide culturally aligned care and mental health rehabilitation through grassroots gatherings rooted in Hawaiian values, messaging and survival skills.
Other resources we are developing include planting food for the future to build a stronger food systems pipeline and keep the local economy circulating on our island. As commerce starts to return we plan to align with our agricultural partners and cultural collaborators to provide diversified agritourism opportunities and access for our visitors that will be fueled directly into the agricultural economic engine on Maui.
